BAHMC - Eligiblity Criteria
Since November 2006, the BAMHC program provides Medicare benefits for the following allied mental health care services:
- Psychological therapy – provided by eligible clinical psychologists; and
- Focused psychological strategies – provided by eligible psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers.
The Eligibility criteria for the Allied Mental Health Individuals/Services is as follows:
- Clinical psychologist providing psychological therapy requires both:
- Membership of the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Clinical Psychology;
- Registration with Medicare Australia.
- Psychologists providing focused psychological strategies require both:
- Registration with the Psychologist’s Registration Board;
- Registration with Medicare Australia.
- Occupational Therapists providing focused psychological strategies require:
- Membership (full or part-time) of OT Australia;
- Minimum 2 years experience in Mental Health;
- Undertaking to abide by The Australian Competency Standards for Occupational Therapists in Mental Health;
- Registration with Medicare Australia.
- Social Workers providing focused psychological strategies require both;
- Membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW);
- Certification by the AASW as meeting the standards for mental health set out in the AASW’s ‘Standards for Mental Health Social Workers 1999’;
- Registration with Medicare Australia.
